The World Bank defines ICT as, "hardware, software, networks, and media for the collection, storage, processing, transmission and presentation of information (voice, data, text, images), as well as related services.” (April 2002,http://info.worldbank.org/ict/ICT_ssp.html).

 

The Univeristy of Wisconsin - Stout via their M.S. degree in Information Communication Technologies presents an opportunity to allow me to positivley impact the future of Information Technology.

Program Goal

The goals that determined my pursuit in the Masters of Information Technology include an overall goal of further expanding the capability for advancement in the Information Technology field.  Within this overall goal there are specific goals that will lead me to achieving this.
 

Demonstrate that I am well positioned and the best choice for the management of both current and future technology solutions across the enterprise.  Develop advanced skills in both technology focused fundamentals along with the business skills required to apply those technologies into actionable solutions.  Further demonstrate knowledge of computer networking concepts, fundamentals, and development via research and advanced certifications.

 

Upon completing the requirements to complete the MSICT program at UW-Stout achieving the above goals will make me a highly developed and well-rounded professional with a passion for Information Technology and the skills to apply that passion to industry.

The following objectives, core competencies, must be met by each student at the completion of the program.

 
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
  • Discuss the historical, philosophical, social, psychological, multicultural, and political influences of ICT on a global economy.

  • Analyze current issues and trends in ICT.

  • Relate how ICT affects global social transformation.

  • Plan, evaluate, and revise ICT systems.

  • Evaluate and use ICTs appropriate to one's own career.

  • Analyze the philosophy and principles underlying the organization and operation of ICT enterprise.

  • Interpret and conduct research to improve the body of knowledge relating to ICT.

 

In addition, each student will develop at least five specific learning outcomes, emphasis competencies, to demonstrate proficiency towards their program goal.
